Parents Approved Fun And Educational Websites For Children

Article by Bibiana Bailey

These days our children spend lots of their free time on the internet. We can’t change that, but we can control what they are doing and where are they going while surfing the world wide web. It is our responsibility as parents to keep them safe and educate them as well.

I decided to do some internet research myself and with my two boys in mind I concentrated on fun yet educational children websites. There is lots of them out there, but not all of them are safe and children friendly websites.

Both of my boys ages 6 and 12 are the scientific type who can watch The Myth Busters, Discovery Channel and CSI all day long. So I was searching for kids science websites. The best science website I came across is Extreme Science. This will be a hit with older children. If your kids are into experiments with a proper supervision of course you can visit Science Explorer. This great educational website is full of experiment ideas. Science Monster is another great learning website for kids and you should put it on your list as well. For the young budding scientists like my 6 years old The Nasa Kid’s Club is the perfect site to visit. They can play interactive and educational games with their favorite characters like Buzz Lightyear. Another really cool website is called Sea and Sky. My boys like to explore it together as the little one needs help with reading and the bonding doesn’t hurt either.

If you child is more of a math then science lovers there are some cool math websites for kids as well. FunBrain and Pongo are great learning websites full of brainteasers and math games. If you have preschool age children then Prongo is the perfect site for them. They have activities for children 3 years and older.

For your early and new readers I recommend few of reading and learning websites my 6 year old loves. They actually started using them in his grade 1 class as well. One of them is a website featuring a popular PBS character Arthur. After they’re done hanging with Arthur you can help them visit the Berenstain Bears and see what Brother and Sister Bear are up to. Another very popular educational websites for preschoolers to Grade 1 children are Star Fall and Seussville University. Both of these are interactive websites that teach children basic reading skills, math, science and reasoning skills.

Last website I want to recommend is Funology. This is a real cool website full of magic tricks, craft ideas, fun games and experiments.

I hope you and your children will enjoy exploring and learning new things just as much as my family does. Don’t forget, proper supervision and help is very important. You never know you might learn something new as well.
